The Problem with Problems

In the dark corners of my mind, the problems are lining up. They are all waiting, rather impatiently, for it to be their turn.

“Next- Now serving problem # 75, 556.”

Interesting that our minds are programmed and ready for problems. The ego thrives on creating them, having them and solving them.

The nerve of some these guys too-they actually sneak back in line after they have already had their turn. Sometimes these problems even break the rules of line waiting  and jump out all at once in a disorderly fashion.

These pesky problems might have the faces of our children, family, friends, finances, career, romantic relationships, community/planetary issues, or any other number of things that we can conjure up in these minds of ours that are constantly searching for conflict.

Problem Thoughts

I have read before that the number of thoughts we experience in a single day is perhaps 10 to 15 thousand, with the same ten themes continuously repeating themselves.

Some of our more typical thought patterns: solving a problem, creating a problem,  judging or worrying about someone else’s problem, thinking of what we don’t want, re-playing things that happened in the past, worrying about the future, playing the victim role, thinking of our own personal interests or desires, deprecating ourselves, or exalting in self-praise.

Does this all sound familiar?

We are not usually in creative, empowering thought that is focused on connection and solution.

That is, until we begin to wake up and pay attention to what is going on inside of our minds and actually do something about it.

Train Your Mind

We work to gain perceived control over everything in our lives, but we often neglect our thoughts and the health of our minds.

I had no idea the amount of control my mind had over me, until I started to slow down and incorporate things into my life that gave me insight into the inner health and workings of my mind.

Meditation, prayer, breathing, journaling, yoga, spiritual study, mantra (repetition of sacred words or texts),subliminals, affirmations, bodywork and even immersing ourselves in enjoyable healthy hobbies are just some of the ways to train the mind into a more peaceful state.

Learning to be watchful of our thoughts as they begin to signal to the next problem and slowing down is not an easy task, especially with everything that is pulling our attention in the world today. Technology has blessed us with some incredible ways to function and connect in this world, but it has also left us with a growing sense of attention defecit. I will be the first to admit that I have a very active mind that is easily distracted.

We either have control over our minds, or our minds have control over us.

And that’s the real problem.
